Commercial Concrete

Small commercial is a real part of what we do

Factory and warehouse slabs, hardstands, carparks, entrance paths and surrounds. It is the same crew, the same suppliers and the same line pump as the residential work, at a larger scale and usually to a tighter program.

We are honest about the size we suit. This is small commercial: a unit, a warehouse floor, a carpark apron, a business frontage. We are not chasing multi-stage civil work, and if that is what you have we will say so rather than stretch.

What changes when it is commercial

Program matters more than anything. A business that cannot take deliveries is losing money every day the slab is unusable. Pours get staged around access and curing so the site keeps working, and that planning happens before the first truck rather than on the day.

Specification comes from an engineer, not from us. Commercial slabs are usually designed. We build to the drawing, and if something on it will not work on that site we raise it early rather than pour it and hope.

Finish is chosen for use, not for looks. Machine trowelled inside where forklifts run and floors get swept. Brush finished outside where there is fall, water and foot traffic. Grip beats appearance on any surface the public walks on wet.

The floor has to close up in one pass. On a unit floor that means a ride-on trowel rather than walk-behind machines working in sections. It is not about speed for its own sake: the slab goes off across the whole span at roughly the same rate, so finishing it in sections leaves you chasing a surface that is ready in one corner and not in another, and the joins between those sections stay visible under warehouse lighting for good.

A frontage is still a shop window

The one place commercial work does need to look good is the entrance. The path people walk in on is the first thing they touch, and an exposed aggregate or honed finish there costs very little more than plain grey across that small an area. We poured the entrance surrounds for a gym and sauna house on exactly that basis: the working areas are grey and functional, the entrance is not.
