Liquid Limestone

Liquid limestone

Why people ask for it here specifically

Liquid limestone stays cool underfoot. That is the reason it is everywhere around Perth pools and almost nowhere in colder states. A pale limestone-based mix reflects heat instead of storing it, so a pool surround is still walkable barefoot on a February afternoon when a dark surface next to it would not be.

It is poured wet and finished on site, so it goes down as one continuous surface. No joints between pavers means nothing to lift, nothing for weeds to come through, and no sand to wash out every time the pool gets splashed.

It is a limestone mix, not a coating

Worth clearing up, because the name confuses people. This is not something painted or spread over existing concrete. It is a poured product in its own right, batched with crushed limestone instead of the usual aggregate, delivered by truck and pumped or barrowed into place like any other pour.

What we use

Limecrete, in Coral White most often. Elite Line Pumping do most of our pours, which matters on typical Perth blocks because a line pump keeps the truck on the street and avoids running barrows across a finished garden or through a house.

Where it suits, and where it does not

Suits: pool surrounds, alfrescos, paths, courtyards. Anywhere people walk barefoot, and anywhere a continuous pale surface is the look.

Less suited: a driveway carrying a heavy vehicle every day. It can be specified for vehicles, but a pale surface under a dripping ute will show it, and there are better choices for that job. We would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong surface.

Maintenance, honestly

It is porous, so it wants sealing and it wants resealing periodically. A sealed surface resists staining from leaves, sunscreen and pool chemicals far better than an unsealed one. Hairline cracking can occur, as it can in any poured surface, and control joints are cut in to steer where that happens rather than leave it to chance.

Two we have done

Wandi. An alfresco and courtyard poured as one surface, running out from the doors with no step. That continuity is most of the appeal: the inside floor and the outside floor read as one level.

Scarborough. A path down the full length of the side of a house. Continuous pour, no joints, which is exactly what that kind of narrow run wants.
