Doubleview · Limecrete Quarry White fine blend
One frontage, poured as one piece
The job here was a rip out and replace, about 100 square metres. The old surface came out and the whole front of the property went back as a single exposed aggregate apron: street piers to verandah edge, and across to the garage door under the main roof.
Doing the frontage in one pour rather than patching a driveway into what is already there is the difference between a house that looks finished and one that looks repaired. The levels are set once, the mix is ordered once, and there is one joint down the centre instead of a seam wherever the old work stopped.
Quarry White, and why pale reads well on a character home
The mix is Limecrete Quarry White fine blend. It is a pale base with a fine mixed pebble through it, so at walking distance it reads as a light stone surface rather than as concrete with rocks in it.
On a rendered character home with a deep verandah that matters. A dark or heavily speckled apron pulls the eye down and makes the house sit lower than it is. A pale fine blend does the opposite, and it stays cooler underfoot across a frontage this size, which is not a small thing on a west facing block in February.
The ridge decides the joints
Doubleview slopes. On a frontage this wide the fall is the first conversation: where the water is going, whether it crosses the verandah line, and where the control joint sits so that when the slab moves it cracks on the line you chose instead of one it chose for itself.
That is worth settling before anyone talks about colour. A beautiful mix poured to the wrong fall is still a puddle against a front step.
