Concreters in Trigg
Trigg · Limecrete Coral White, honed
Pool surrounds are most of what we do in Trigg
Trigg is pools. The blocks are close enough to the water that the back yard is the room everybody actually uses, and the concrete around the pool is the floor of it rather than a path around the edge.
The job shown here is a honed surround wrapping a rectangular pool and continued out under the pergola to the back of the house, so the pool area and the covered area read as one surface instead of two. That is the thing worth getting right on a block this size. Stopping the concrete at the pool coping and starting something else a metre later is what makes a yard feel chopped up.
The seamless pool edge
The close photograph on this page is the edge detail, and it is the part of the job people notice without being able to say why.
A seamless edge means the concrete runs to the waterline and finishes there, rather than having a separate coping laid on top of it. There is no lip, no second material, no grout line collecting dirt. It is more work to set out and it has to be right the first time, because the edge cannot be adjusted once the pour has gone off.
It also matters underfoot. A coping joint is exactly where a wet foot catches, and getting rid of it is a safety improvement as much as a visual one.
Honed, and honed in house
The surround was poured in Limecrete Coral White and honed back after it cured, which is what brings the stone up and leaves the surface smooth without being slick.
We do the honing ourselves rather than subbing the grinding out. On a pool surround that is worth saying, because the finish is the whole product here. There is nothing else on the job to hide behind.
Sand, salt and getting concrete to the back
Two things make Trigg different to a job a few suburbs inland.
The first is the ground. Deep coastal sand digs easily and compacts poorly, so the preparation under a slab is where a Trigg job is won or lost. Skimp there and the slab will follow the sand down.
The second is access. Most of these blocks have the house across the front and a narrow side, so the concrete goes over the roof through a line pump rather than down a chute. That is normal here, it is not a problem, but it is a real cost and it should be in the quote rather than a surprise on the day.
